A CELEBRATORY event marking 200 years of one of Wansbeck's most spectacular buildings attracted visitors in their hundreds at the weekend.
The anniversary event, which took place last Saturday at Hartford Hall, near Bedlington, was the culmination of months of planning by organisers.

Hartford Hall, which has a long and varied history, opened its grounds to the public to mark the hall's 200th anniversary.

The Duchess of Northumberland officially opened the Georgian Garden Fete, which had activities running throughout the day.

Arts and crafts stalls filled the marquee, with re-enactment displays by the Durham Light Infantry, a bird of prey display, vintage motorcycle display and a Yard of Ale competition.

The estate was rejuvenated by a development company after standing empty and derelict for many years.

Those living in the hall and surrounding buildings organised the event in a bid to raise awareness of the history of the estate.

The hall is probably best known as a rehabilitation centre for local miners, which it was turned into in 1944.
