LONG serving workers at a former borough council have been given a pen and pencil set as a farewell gesture.
Staff who had worked for Blyth Valley Borough Council for 20 years or more were given a commemorative stationery set for their service.

Of the 132, seven have served for 35 years or more.

David Nesbit, a licensing officer started work on the first day of Blyth Valley Borough Council, April 1, 1974.

He and the six others, Helen Coulson, Ed Crutchley, Jimmy Henderson, Malcolm Norris, Ken Pooley and Brian Wright had a combined service record of 271 years.

Speaking at a celebratory event at Concordia Leisure Centre, former council chief executive Geoff Paul said: "They all helped to make Blyth Valley an excellent council and their loyalty is a reflection of what a great organisation it has been to work for."
