Car park closure surely a danger
WITH reference to the article ‘Giant earth sculpture now open every day’ (News Post Leader, October 18), I struggle to come to terms with the final sentence “... the site will be open daily from dawn to dusk, but its car park will only be open from 9.30am to 4pm and will be shut on Mondays”.
Does this mean that on Mondays in particular, visitors to the much heralded marvel of Northumberlandia will be parking in the car park of the Snowy Owl or along the sides of adjacent roads?
Judging by the notice at the entrance to the Snowy Owl, the proprietor is obviously not keen on the possibility (or probability) of the former, which just leaves the road sides and grass verges, which comes with a series of what should be obvious accompanying dangers.
Surely it was a condition of the planning consent that adequate available and accessible parking must be provided throughout all opening periods to service the overwhelming demand we have been told to expect.
As unbelievable as it seems, if there was no such planning condition, then the Land Trust and the Banks Group should have enough common sense between them to realise the potential repercussions.
Of course, I could be mistaken in my assumptions, as Mondays could be the intended day for pedestrian visitors, especially those from Cramlington who, if they choose to follow the constructed pedestrian access, have to run the gauntlet of crossing a busy dual carriageway at a point which is a short distance from a large roundabout where vehicles frequently enter and exit at speed.
Logic and common sense has obviously been in short supply when it has come to these aspects.
