Games expert to guide pupils

AN EXPERT on video game design is going to be on hand to teach pupils at The Northumberland Church of England Academy next week.

Mark Sample has been working in the video gaming field for over 20 years, with his most recent role as producer at Ubisoft Reflections.

He has already visited the Academy to speak to pupils about career opportunities in gaming, he will now lead taster workshops to give pupils first-hand experience in games design on Wednesday June 27 from 5pm until 7pm..

The Academy plans to make this a regular after school club from September to give all secondary pupils a chance to gain valuable experience in this fast growing industry.

Mark said: “The Games Academy is a fantastic new venture at the Academy.

“It’s a place where pupils can get together and learn how to create games, understand what it’s like to work in the games industry and brush up their skills in games design, art, animation, programming and production. I’m really excited to be running the course and look forward to helping the young developers of today become the next generation of future talent. What else can I say, It’s going to be fun!”

Carly Cormack, Head of Department for Design said: “All of us in the Design department are very excited to welcome Mark Sample to the Academy and are very proud to be able to offer this experience to learners.

“It will be wonderful to celebrate an industry currently thriving in the North East and introduce learners to the opportunities available locally.”
