HUNDREDS of people were entertained at Morpeth Lions Club’s annual ‘Meet the Lions’ event at Riverside Lodge.

Elderly or disabled people were entertained with an afternoon tea, bingo and music, with all being presented with an early Christmas box of sweets as they left.

Three local Olympic torchbearers – Stevie Matthews, Jim Alder and David Hunt – also attended with their torches to show guests.

Lion president Simon Pringle said: “This event could not happen without a lot of hard work and co-operation from so many people.

“We are grateful to Liz and Bill Durning for allowing use of their premises, to the entertainers, to the Lion ladies, to local Guides, to British Red Cross and Robin Cooper for being the main organiser.”

Entertainment came from Hunter Theatre Arts, Alex Banfield, St George’s URC Ceilidh group and David Livesey.
