Society commemorate suffragette

A HISTORY society in the county will be staging exhibitions to commemorate the centenary of the death of suffragette Emily Wilding Davison.

Morpeth Antiquarian Society is staging displays on ‘Women of Morpeth’ and domestic life 100 years ago.

Artefacts from the society’s collections are on view in the display cases in the town’s Butter Market.

Throughout February, window displays at 1-3 Oldgate will show adverts from the early 20th century, and information on Emily Davison, shopkeeper Micah Elliott and other women connected with Morpeth.

And a heritage event is being held on Saturday, February 16, at the Oldgate building from 10am to 3pm.
