Couple sculpture far from a waste of money

I AM unable to comment on most of the content of Dan Thomson's letter (News Post Leader, letters February 15) regarding Aardvark as I have never seen it when it was available for viewing by the public.

But I would like to comment on the Newbiggin comments.

Perhaps 85 per cent of people thought that the Couple sculpture was a waste of money, but who were these people?

Being an online survey, can it be considered inclusive or does such surveys just include those who have access to the internet, excluding those without access or unwilling to use this medium?

I look at Couple every single day from my house and I do not find it offensive and I do not consider it to be a waste of money considering that the money used to erect it would have been lost to another part of the UK if Newbiggin had not bid for it.

Like Aardvark, the Couple is artwork and as such will always be subjective. Without this subjectivity life would be very dull.

Couple is part of a number of regeneration initiatives being employed in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea to raise the standards in the town.

It works with the newly restored beach and breakwater, features designed to protect the town from the seas, new shop front regeneration, which has made a tremendous difference to the streetscape of Newbiggin.

All small steps that have increased the footfall within Newbiggin over the past few years.

You continue to fight for Aardvark, Dan, as you appear to be passionate about it, and I will continue to fight for Newbiggin as I am passionate about its future.
