Worthy causes are beneficiaries

NOW that the hurly burly of Christmas and the holiday season is in the distant past, I would like to take this opportunity of thanking the people of Ashington for once again responding with their usual generosity when Ashington Lioness Club toured the streets with Santa Claus and his Sleigh.

This year, although the weather was not nearly as picturesque or seasonal as it was the previous Christmas, it was considerably kinder and made it so much easier for the sleigh to get around.

Together with the four days collecting in ASDA we made more than £3,000, all of which has gone back into the community – half to the 1st Ashington Scout Group who do such a sterling job helping with the collection.

It is gratifying to see that so many young people are prepared to give up their time to help out in this way.

The remainder went to the Mya Simpson Appeal.

Mya is a little girl who was born with probable infantile Parkinson’s disease – possibly the first child in the world to be born with the condition.

Her parents are trying to raise the £50,000 they need to build a two-storey extension on to their home in order to provide the facilities required to care for Mya as she gets older.

I am sure that your readers will be happy to know that their donations have gone to two such deserving causes.
