BLYTH Valley Councillors have joined the campaign to keep open the Thomas Knight Memorial Hospital. Members of the council’s environmental health committee argued in favour of retaining the hospital for long stay geriatric patients at a meeting this week.

ALL MPs and energy secretary Peter Walker are to be told why Northumberland Planners are opposed to a proposed nuclear power station at Druridge Bay following the Sizewell B injuiry report.

THE crime wave which has hit the north east has prompted the Post Office to review its security measures and fortify sub post offices. The raids have caused the Post Office hundreds of thousands of pounds and have resulted in staff being injured, some seriously.

EAST Northumberland is licking its wounds and patching up the damage left by the Sunday night and Monday morning gales, described as the worst in living memory. A full count of the damage is still to be tolled up but already the figures are reaching high proportions.

THE proposed central area development of Blyth and its effect on the businesses in the area was the subject of discussion at Blyth Chamber of Trade’s executive committee. Traders discussed the project and put forward their views.

DELAVAL Hall and gardens will be open to the public this spring for the first time in three years. The opening will following the completion of the second phase of restoration works.
