RESIDENTS at Seaton Sluice have renewed their fight for a pelican crossing in the village. The villagers have been pleading with Northumberland County Council for several years now to have the present pedestrian crossing at Beresford Road replaced by a pelican crossing.

A BEDLINGTON firm is poised to create 50 new jobs following a £1m export deal. Welwyn Microcircuits have won orders from American and European markets to supply components for use in digital telephone exchanges and USA military projects.

WORK will start in 1987/88 on the £1.54m by-pass at Ellington. It is one of several schemes in the Northern Region announced by the secretary of state for transport, John Moore.

HORTON Grange Colliery, the shafts of which were sunk almost 110 years ago, is to close down this weekend. For the 230 men working there it is no surprise, for a single shift working has been in operation for some time.

THE floating population which lies on caravan sites in the Blyth and Bedlington areas have had one of their biggest headaches solved for them. For when they move on, the caravan dwellers often find themselves without any means of taking their caravans with them. But 31-year-old Mr John B Baker, of Cowpen Road, Blyth, plans to come to their rescue by using his Land Rover to tow their caravans to whatever part of the country they want to be taken.
