THE FINAL night of the Britain's Got Talent tour hit Metro Radio Arena last night where an overwhelming army of George Sampson fans screamed their way through a two-hour joy-ride of the ten finalists' acts.
The highly popular TV show was transformed into a sensational theatre show that kicked off with runners-up Suleman Mirza and Madhu Singh as Michael Jackson dance act Signature, who lit up the stage with their unique and extended performance.
If someone had told me a few months ago that thousands of people would pay good money to see a Michael Jackson dance act, I would have laughed in their face, but yet, hoards of screaming teens filled the Arena on Monday for the final date of the tour - that had to be added due to demand.
The finalists took to the stage to perform the acts that gave them their 15 minutes fame on the TV show, and for the most part did the same routines the audience had already seen – but this did nothing to take away from the enjoyment of the show.
In essence this was little more than a live version of the television programme, but it was still adored throughout the arena, as the stage show saw a few twists to what the crowd expected, including a fantastic duo from opera singers Faryl Smith and Andrew Johnston who sang Walking
In The Air beautifully, and an amazing collaboration by dance troupe Nemesis - who really blew the audience away with their extended set – who later joined forces with Signature and George Sampson for a great Michael Jackson medley.
String quartet Escala were one of my favourites of the show and of the night, as they performed the two songs they had on the TV show, generating as much excitement and enthusiasm they had done previously.
Although not my cup of tea, the Cheeky Monkeys got many oohs and aahs throughout their two performances, and marital arts group Strike proved their worth by stripping and flaunting their toned bodies.
But it was 14-year-old break-dancing winner George who brought the house down with his signature Singing in the Rain dance with 'that' somersault move at the end that really got the crowds excited, with screaming louder than I have ever heard before in my life.
Just six days after George was crowned the winner, the tour kicked off, and a matter of weeks later he has been transformed into something of a teen idol, with thousands of young girls desperate to see the youngster perform.
It may not really be anything more than a glorified talent show, but these are faces we have come to know and love over the last few weeks, and there was certainly more than one deserving winner amongst those finalists.
And judging by the audience reactions, it was a very well liked show.
