THE Arctic Monkeys look set to dominate the NME Awards this year - leading the way with a record seven nominations.
In the awards Amy Winehouse could end up being the biggest loser, as she has been nominated for Villain of the Year alongside Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his predecessor Tony Blair and US President George Bush.
Thousands of genuine music fans have voted for the decade's biggest British band in the categories of Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Track, Best Video and Best Album Artwork, with Alex
picking up a nomination in the Best Dressed category.
They'll find out if they've won at the ceremony, which will take place on February 28.
Arctic Monkeys have a record seven nominations in the awards, which are voted by NME readers - they're up for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album and Album Artwork for Favourite Worst Nightmare, Best Track for Fluorescent Adolescent and Best Video for Teddy Picker, while frontman Alex Turner is a Best Dressed contender.
Since bursting on to the music scene, the Sheffield band have notched up 15 NME Award nominations - making them the magazine's most voted band of the decade.
Arctic Monkeys' Jamie Cook said: "It's sound the readers keep voting for
us. We're chuffed.
"Best band and best album are always a good one. Live would be good.
"It's good to have been picked up in that because we put a lot of effort into our live work last year, I thought we got a lot better - so that would be a good'en to win."
Fighting it out for the Best Live Band gong along with Arctic Monkeys, are Muse, The Cribs, Kaiser Chiefs, and My Chemical Romance. These bands have thrilled live audiences up and down the country over the last 12 months and now the fans will decide who deserves to take away this highly prized title.
Amy Winehouse has also notched up four nominations but thanks to her
recent troubles she finds herself nominated for Villain of the Year and
Worst Dressed! But it's not all bad news, whilst her style may get a
thumbs down from the fans, her music is still appreciated with nominations in the Best Music DVD and Best Solo Artist category.
The winners will be announced at a London ceremony on February 28, to
be broadcast on E4.
