TEESSIDE rockers The Princes Of Monte Carlo brought their distinctive funky blues sound to a busy Morpeth pub on Friday night.
The quartet played an outstanding two-part set at the Black Bull on Bridge Street, performing a mix of original material and classic covers.

They blasted onto the stage with two note-perfect covers of Led Zepellin's Whole Lotta Love, and The Kinks' You Really Got Me to 'get the audience in the mood' before launching into their own songs.

Some bands may have struggled to follow up two such well-known covers with original material, but not the POMCs.

The band are keen to be recognised for the songs they have penned themselves, and not be seen as 'just another covers band'.

This shines through with the passion and enthusiasm that goes into the performances of their own material.

The bluesy Join The Revolution, Rollin' On, and All Over Now - the most popular song on the band's website - were all greeted as warmly as any covers, and the excellent Bugaloo, which wrapped up the first set, was a particularly impressive vocal performance from lead singer Tone.

By the end of the second set, which included an outstanding guitar solo from lead guitarist Sean during The Police's Message In A Bottle, the excited crowd demanded more, and were rewarded with Johnny B Goode.

With energetic drummer Kris 'Mad Dog' MacConnell in charge of the sticks, and founder member Russ holding it all together on bass, the POMCs really are a must-see.
