Maurice, from Ariel Street, became a fully-fledged member of Wishbone Ash – the act he idolises, when the band's lead singer Martin Turner asked him to replace the band's guitarist on stage in Basingstoke in April.
And now Maurice, who has played the guitar in tribute act Wishblowin Ash for the past few years, has been invited to do more gigs with the band.
Maurice said: "This is a dream come true.
"I was in shock to say the least when Martin rang, and I just thought what an honour.
"I did the gig with only seven days notice to learn new material and no live rehearsal, but nevertheless the gig was a total success.
"Now Wishbone Ash has invited me back to do another four gigs on the Argus Tour of the UK, including one gig in Newcastle.
"Technically speaking the job of guitarist is vacant on a permanent basis, so who knows what could happen.
"It would be amazing to become the guitarist of Wishbone Ash full time, but to play on stage with the band is incredible.
"I can't wait to come back to the north east and play the Newcastle date with the band in June."
Maurice will play with Wishbone Ash at Rotherham on May 17, Wakefield on May 18, and Glasgow on June 11, before returning to the north east to play The Clunny in Newcastle on June 12.
