ALMOST 2,000 people attended the inaugural Luxury Antiques Weekend at Linden Hall.
The first sale was made within 15 minutes of opening when Garret and Hurst Sculpture sold a bronze, 'Chien terre nueve couché' by Emmanuel Fremiet, in the region of £3,500, to a local couple. Their other sales included 'La Liseuse' by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) for £16,000.

Other prices included a longcase clock from F. J. & R. D. Story Longcase Clocks, sold in the region of £5,000.

Stablegate Antiques sold a Georgian serpentine mahogany chest for about £7,000. Melody Antiques made several good sales including a walnut bureau at £6,000.

Newcastle dealer Graham Smith Antiques sold a George III mahogany tallboy and an early George II low boy to a family from Newbiggin-on-Sea, in the region of £6,500.

Organiser Ingrid Nilson of The Antique Dealers Fair Ltd said: "I am very pleased with how the fair went, and I look forward to staging this event again next spring."
