A CHARITABLE bikers group are collecting Easter eggs to give out to the local community on Easter Sunday.
For the past 17 years, Northumberland Bikers has collected the chocolate eggs with a cavalcade of motorbikes riding through south east Northumberland.

Up to 500 riders take part in the event, splitting into small groups to deliver eggs to staff an
d residents in nursing homes, hospitals and care in the community centres.

Group chairman Gordon Fitch, of Northumberland Bikers, said: "This whole event centres around the charitable distribution of chocolate Easter eggs to not only children in need but also the elderly and infirm who really appreciate this small gesture to brighten up their Easter day.

"We need to make sure that we have enough chocolate eggs this year to ensure that no one is let down and are appealing to members of the public to donate an egg at one of the collection points."

Anyone wishing to donate an egg can drop one off at one of the following locations before noon on Saturday:

The Windmill Pub in Cowpen Road, the Clayton Arms in Dudley, the Blake Arms in Seghill, Hastings Arms in Seaton Delaval, the Blue Bell in Bedlington, and the Bebside Inn, Blyth.

Mr Fitch added: "This small gesture makes a big difference to a lot of people's Easter Sunday.

"The look on patients and residents' faces when we give them an egg speaks volumes for us and is what keeps us going year after year."

Northumberland Bikers are assembling from 11.30am at Blyth Quayside on Easter Saturday before setting off on the route to collect the eggs, ready to deliver them on the Sunday.
