AN ASHINGTON man has been voted the best care home manager in the country at a special awards ceremony.
Terry Lillico, of Carlton Grove, was announced as the winner of the National Grand Prix Award in the Southern Cross Care awards for 2007.

Mr Lillico was given the award, along with a cheque for £1,500 presented by Nicholas Parsons, at the national awards event held in Blackpool.

He had previously won the north east manager of the year and regional manager of the year within the Southern Cross group, which owns more than 700 homes across the country, before being entered in the national grand prix for his work at Coniscliffe Care Centre in Newcastle.

His wife Maureen said: "His family are all so very proud of his achievement in his work for the eldery.

"He started work as a care assistant and Terry has worked his way up the ladder."
