Chefs taken to sea to discover what fisherman can offer

SOME of the region's top chefs will be taken out to sea this Monday to find out exactly what local fisherman have to offer them.
Two boats will set off at 5.30pm from Amble Harbour, one lobster potting, the other drift netting for wild salmon.

Made in Northumberland - a scheme which aims to enhance the value and appeal of locally produced goods - plan to make chefs aware of what they missing right on their doorstep. Usually, the fishermen's holds are exported to fish markets in Europe rather than sourced to local buyers.

Adam Ellis Jones, Project Manager for Made in Northumberland, said: "We want to show the chefs the difficulties of sourcing locally caught fish and to try to get them to purchase direct supplies of this wonderful produce.

"By taking to the high seas on Monday our chefs will see first hand how it can be done!"

Jones added: "Locally sourced fish - you can't beat it. There is no catch - only the catch they land at places like Amble and Seahouses, virtually every day of the week."
