A VILLAGE community centre is in line for a make-over to help pull in the crowds.
Lynemouth Community Trust will oversee the revamp of its Bridge Road premises during the relocation of the library.

Castle Morpeth Borough Council has handed over almost £5,000 for the project through a Community £xtra grant, which will provide ab
out half the funds required for the project.

The scheme will involve the replacement of carpets with modern, environmentally-friendly marmoleum flooring to improve provision for craft and food activities, extra storage facilities built in for the youth club and the replacement of windows and blinds.

In addition, the centre will bring in an artist to work with youngsters on murals to brighten the facility up.

Trust manager Andrew Gooding said: "Due to the library position changing, we are changing some of our downstairs layout and decor.

"The carpet dates back to when the building was a pub ten years ago so
it is seriously old and no longer fit for purpose.

"The council grant is the first step.

"We just need to get the rest of the funding to make it all happen.

"We've got about half of what we need.

"The idea is to make the centre fit for purpose because it is getting a bit old and decrepit.

"You can only clean carpets so many times and they are a bit threadbare.

"We want to increase participation in the building, but if the place doesn't look that good people don't want to use it."

Work will start as soon as other funding is secured.
