Council fears about design of new build

CONCERNS have been raised that a proposed new teaching block at Kingsway and Crofton First School mimics an unremarkable sports hall building.
Northumberland County Council granted planning permission for the demolition of a former nursery building and construction of a new two-storey teaching block to accommodate 120 pupils.
But Blyth Valley Borough Council's development control panel raised concerns about the quality of the building's design.
A panel report said: "The local authority does not object to the principle of the proposal, but has concerns about the quality of the proposed design.
"This council is of the opinion that the county council should've given further consideration to the design of the proposal.
"It has been designed as such to mimic the existing sports hall, an unremarkable building."
A Northumberland County Council spokeswoman said: "We are awaiting the formal observations of Blyth Valley Borough Council on the planning application but we will take into account any observations we receive."
The new block will increase the school's capacity from 300 to 420 pupils, and is part of a county-wide scheme to improve and modernise school facilities.
