A DEBT collector who set up false loan applications so he could steal the cash has been spared jail.
James Scott was employed by Provident Personal Credit to go door-to-door in North Tyneside and collect loan re-payments from customers, Newcastle Crown Court was told.
But the 38-year-old set up a string of false applications in fake names and pocketed £1,500, the court heard.
Scott, of Rowley Street, Blyth, admitted six counts of theft when his case was listed for trial at Newcastle Crown Court.
Mr Recorder Dallas imposed an 18-month community order and said Scott must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
"You managed to get a job with the Provident, and within a couple of months it seems you simply went on the fiddle," he said.
"On six occasions you set up loans to steal money. This is pre-meditated stealing from your employer.
"It is a gross breach of trust."
