JUST ask UK pet owners…31 years on and the Hound Dog is still top-dog for many, says PDSA
More than 30 years after his untimely demise aged just 42, Elvis clearly lives on in the hearts and minds of UK pet owners, according to leading veterinary charity PDSA. Proof that 'The King' really is still alive comes with the news that the name Elvis remains among the Top 10 celebrity names for pets.
PDSA staff checked the names of pets that visited its 47 PDSA PetAid hospitals and branches over the last year and discovered a wealth of celebrity-themed names.
Inspired by actors, sports stars and 'celebutantes', many pets across the UK answer to some very familiar names.
Deryck Wilson, PDSA Spokesperson explains: "Our PDSA PetAid hospitals see lots of pets with celebrity names, as opposed to the more traditional Fidos and Rovers.
Despite dying a generation ago, Elvis clearly remains an inspiration for pet owners throughout the UK. And with hits such as Hound Dog, Old Shep, Love Me Tender and Don't Be Cruel, maybe it's not surprising Elvis is still alive and rocking for pet lovers."
PDSA's top ten most popular celebrity pet names:
1. Tyson (Mike)
2. Harry (Potter or Prince)
3. Ozzy (Osbourne)
4. Robbie (Williams)
5. Rooney (Wayne)
6. Beckham (David)
7. Paris (Hilton)
8. Elvis (Presley)
9. Jessie (Wallace)
10. Britney (Spears)
