Firefighters cool gas cylinders at garage blaze

FIREFIGHTERS are cooling down potentially lethal gas cylinders at risk of exploding after a garage blaze in Seaton Sluice.
Fire crews were still dealing with the remnants of the fire which broke out in Wilson Young's garage, Boundary Way, off Beresford Road, in the early hours of Good Friday.

The emergency services were forced to evacuate more than 30 homes in the area when the blaze broke out at around 1.30am.

The building contained canisters of acetylene gas.

A 100 metre-exclusion zone was set up and firefighters were still at the scene of of the incident cooling the containers at lunchtime on Friday.

A reception centre was set up in Seaton Sluice Middle School on the north side of the village for residents moved from nearby homes.

Police also closed off Beresford Road, the main route through the village, with diversions in place along Collywell Bay.
