Gas blast homes to be replaced

TWO houses destroyed by a gas blast in Blyth are to be replaced with a pair of new properties.
Number 64 Twentieth Avenue was ripped apart by the explosion last April, which seriously injured the tenant, and the neighbouring property was severely damaged.
At the time, neighbours described watching the property 'being torn apart like a cardboard box', and the blast was heard as far away as Asda on Cowpen Road.
Planning permission to construct two new semi-detached properties on the site was originally granted from Blyth Valley Borough Council's development control panel in September, but he applicant re-submitted the plans after altering the design proposals.
The new houses will each have three bedrooms, and hard-standing to provide off-street parking for the properties.
The panel deemed the application to be consistent with local and national housing policy, and in keeping with the surrounding area.
