TWO Ashington grandmothers will be cycling around Cuba to raise awareness about cancers which have an impact on women.
Denise Scott, a 51-year-old nurse at Wansbeck General, and Susan Walton, 54, have both suffered recent bereavements and decided to take on the Cycle Cuba challenge in aid of raising funds for the Women for Women charity.

Ms Walton, who runs the Chevington Moor Bed and Breakfast, said: "We need to raise £6,000 between us.

"We have had a good response from Curves gym, who have given us £600.

"We'd like to thank everyone who's sponsored us up till now and hope we can raise a lot more.

The pair will be cycling the 370km route in November and will be among 300 women who are expected to raise nearly £1.5m.

Professor Robert Winston, patron of Women for Women, will also be on the cycle.

Until then, Susan and Denise have lots of fundraising activities planned at the Block and Tackle pub in Ashington the week starting May 12.
