RNLI Blyth raced to the aid of a man in rough seas during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The crew of lifeboat Jennie B were alerted by the coastguard at 4.14am on March 23 to help the police near an out-fall pipe at South Beach where the man was in the water.
The sea conditions close to the shore were described as rough after strong north easterly winds over the previous 48 hours.
The lifeboat was stood down 15 minutes later after the man was reported to be safe.
An RNLI Blyth spokesperson said: "The incident illustrates how the police and the lifeboat crews can work together when there is a person in the sea close to shore."
