SHABBY Town Hall furnishings could be spruced up as part of a bigger restoration project.
Work is under way on the Grade II listed building in Morpeth town centre to preserve its facia, carry out stonework repairs and remove the toilets from the Butter Market.

Now it has been proposed that worn down furniture could also be replaced to create a better venue for the public.

At a Castle Morpeth civic committee meeting, council chief executive Ken Dunbar said he hoped the work could be linked to current Town Hall restoration work.

"It has been suggested that we take a look at the furniture and furnishings in the Mayor's Parlour because they need restoration and attention.

"We don't have a budget in the current form that tackles this and we have a limited maintenance budget.

"What I would like to look at is to see if this can be picked up as part of restoration work for the Town Hall."

Members agreed to the suggestion.
