BLYTH Valley Borough Council's leader Dave Stevens has failed to get a seat on the new unitary council in Northumberland.
The results are now in, and the Conservative party has picked up just one seat of the 17 contested wards, the Labour Party has taken eight and the Liberal Democrats has taken eight.

The Liberal Democrats gained six seats from Labour, and Council leader Dave Stephens lost out in the Wensleydale ward to Ian Tompkins.

Early results saw Labour's Susan Davey take the Cowpen ward with a turnout under 30 per cent.

Elsewhere Marueen Brown (Cramlington West), Alan Armstrong (Cramlington Village) and Ian Swithenbank (Cramlington East) were also elected as the Labour Party took the early seats.

The first councillor elected in Blyth Valley from outside the Labour Party was Cramlington South East ward member Thomas Brechany, as he won for the Liberal Democrats.

And Wayne Daley (Cramlington North) was the only councillor from the Conservative party to secure a seat.

The elected councillors are in bold.
