TWO girls from Blyth are recovering in Wansbeck General Hospital after taking a cocktail of drugs.
Just after 9pm on Tuesday night police received a call that a 14-year-old girl from Blyth had taken a drugs overdose.

However, police discovered that two girls at the address in Richard Street had been taken to hospital after taking the drugs.

Their condition was initially described as serious, with one girl in intensive care.

But they have since made a dramatic improvement with the 14-year-old expected to be released from hospital later today (Wednesday) while the other girl, aged 17, is being kept in for observations.

A police spokesman said it was thought the pair had taken a combination of illegal and prescription drugs, although further tests are being carried out.

Three local men – one aged 18 and two aged 23 – have been arrested and remain in custody in connection with supplying drugs.

Enquiries are still ongoing with local CID officers.

Partner agencies which deal with drugs issues have been informed of the incident.

Detective Inspector Steve Wouldhave said: "This again highlights the dangers of taking illegal drugs and in particular mixing different types or combining them with alcohol, especially for vulnerable people.

"This incident could have resulted in fatal consequences."
