Three arrested after man is found dead above takeaway

THREE men have been arrested after a man was found dead in a flat above a Chinese takeaway in Blyth.
The man and a seriously injured woman, were found with serious injuries above the Dragon House in Elliot Street, Newsham, on Thursday night.

Both were taken to Wansbeck General Hospital, where the 44-year-old man was pronounced dead.

The 45-year-old woman underwent surgery and is critically ill, police said.

The three arrested men are in custody.

Police said a forensic examination of the flat was taking place and a post-mortem is to be undertaken.

No details of the injuries suffered by the couple or their identities have been released.

Detective Chief Inspector Roger Ford said: "We are trying to establish exactly what took place in the flat.

"It is near two licensed premises, both of which were busy at 11pm when we believe an attack took place."

Three men have been arrested and are in custody being questioned by police in relation to the attack.

Police are appealing for anyone in the area who may have information to contact officers immediately on 08456 043043.
