POLICE in Blyth are appealing for information after two cannabis farms were discovered in the town over the weekend.
Acting on information from the public, officers found the cannabis farms in two houses in Eskdale Avenue and Seventh Avenue in Blyth.

Both houses contained specialist heating and lighting equipment and officers seized over 1,000 plants, with a potential value in the region of £500,000.

Blyth Neighbourhood Inspector David Felton said: "This type of organised crime is a national issue and we believe that those responsible for these cannabis farms aren't local to the area.

"There is no place for drugs in our communities and we will continue to always act on any information from the public."

Detective Sergeant Stuart Robertson of Blyth CID added: "Drug use and supply can often lead to other crime in the community and by putting a stop to this officers can target other connected criminal activity.

"I'd appeal for anyone who has any information around these two cannabis farms or the production of drugs anywhere in Blyth to contact police straight away.

"I'd also appeal for landlords and letting agencies to get in touch with police if they suspect that their properties are being used for anything suspicious."

Anyone with information on the two cannabis farms is asked to contact Blyth CID on 03456 043043 ext 61974 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
