I WOULD like to let your readers know that Diabetes UK still has places available in its team for this year's Bupa Great North Run on Sunday, September 20.
More than 40,000 would-be runners missed out on a place in the ballot for this year's race so this is the last chance to take part.

Around 2.5 million people in the UK are diagnosed with diabetes and this figure could reach four million by 2025. C
urrently there are up to 500,000 who have the condition but do not know it. Diabetes is serious.

It can lead to complications such as heart disease, kidney damage, stroke and amputation. It is also the largest cause of blindness in people of working age.

Taking part in the Bupa Great North Run for Diabetes UK is a great way to help people who are affected by diabetes. Money raised from the event will help us continue supporting people who have the condition and fund research which we hope will eventually lead to a cure.

Of course, anyone who has their own place for the Great North Run can still join the Diabetes UK record breaking team. Runners will receive a running vest, training schedule and an invitation to our post-event hospitality amongst other exclusive benefits.

Please contact Lisa Stafford on 01325 488606 or email lisa.stafford@diabetes.org.uk for further information and to secure
your place in the team.

Please go the extra mile for Diabetes UK and help us to make this year's Great North Run the most successful ever.

DOUGLAS SMALLWOOD
Chief Executive.
