IN your report (News Post Leader letters, June 18) of the imminent closure of the Blyth Community Support Service a spokesman for the Northumberland Care Trust uses a lot of words to, in effect, say that the closure is due to lack of funds.
May I, through your column, ask that spokesman how much, if any, thought was given to making the necessary funds available by ceasing to spend money on methadone.

Or is it the case that the interests of those who, because they have suffered a stroke, are in need of the service provided by the BCS are considered to be of a lower priority than those who, as a consequence of their own actions, are in need of a chemical crutch.

ALAN DONNELLY
