Councillor's comments a refreshing change

WHAT a refreshing change it was to read the letter sent in regarding Coun Bobby Nixon's experience in relation to the Seghill landfill extension.
We need more people like him in council, people who will stand up for what it is right, although I was concerned to read that so many fellow councillors had to leave meetings because of the 'Declaration of Interest' rules.

Coun Nixon is right – councillors ARE required to go into planning meetings totally unbiased.

Councils need to be reminded of two things: They are there to serve the public and not their own interests and they are not the government.
