WANSBECK COUNCIL, for a number of years, arranged superb and varied school holiday activities and I have been happy to give praise where it is due.
The recent Heritage Open Days leaflet arrived with our News Post Leader.

Again, it was obvious a lot of hard work had gone into organising the advertised events.

However, we had a giggle at the photograph used on the front of the leaflet as it
was not inspirational at all.

Let me describe the scene. It is a photo of St Bartholomew's Church cloaked in a gloomy heavy sea fret. In the foreground is a distinctive coble.

Along the coble's trailer sit a downcast looking family. Why are they looking so unhappy?

Is it the view of the backsides of Mr and Mrs Stereotype Geordie in the bay?

Is it because they didn't notice the No Dogs sign and are now facing a fine for taking their dog on the beach? (they could be forgiven for assuming this is not a fine attracting activity).

Or is it because, due to lack of public conveniences, they have had to let their son relieve himself on the sand against the tractor trailer tyre?

Who knows? However, Wansbeck, next time please make sure the designers have their glasses on.
