Keep dogs on lead in public places

AFTER the recent ban of dogs from Newbiggin beach by Wansbeck Council, I was shocked by what I saw when I walked along the riverside path from Stakeford Bridge to Wellhead Dene play area with my two-year-old grandson.
Within the space of 150 metres I encountered two incidents of dog owners failing to clean up after their dogs.

One was oblivious to what the dog had done and just kept on walking.

The other watched while the dog fouled the grass, then walked away regardless.

This is a lovely area where a lot of people walk, especially children en route to the playground and obviously this is a health hazard especially to children.

With all the publicity of the beach ban has the problem of dog fouling in other areas of Wansbeck been forgotten?

Maybe if owners were forced to keep dogs on leads in public places this would solve the problem. I fear not, with irresponsible owners.

A RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNER
