I AM approaching you in search of sponsorship for the 2009 Kenyan Rhino Charge.
The Rhino Charge is an off-road event in which competitors are required to visit 13 points scattered over approximately 100 square kms of rough terrain within a ten hour period.

Competitors are supplied with a 1:50,000 scale map of the venue, co-o
rdinates of the 13 control points and their start position (at one of the controls). Each competitor must plot the control points on the map and decide his/her route. Navigation is by compass/GPS and the winner is the competitor who visits all controls in the shortest distance (GPS measured).

To negate environmental damage entries to the charge are limited to between 55-60 vehicles. The popularity of the charge is such that the organisers have been forced to adopt a preferential entry strategy favouring high value fund raisers because would-be entrants far exceed available places in the event.

This means we need to provide 500,000 shillings or £4,000 for Rhino Ark, who raise money for the Aberdares region of Kenya – protecting water sources and fencing the area to protect the endangered Rhino who inhabit the area. For more information please visit http://www.rhinoark.org to see the charity's own website.

Our entry will take part using a 1978 Modified Range Rover V8 which will be driven by the staff of Braeburn Primary and High School, in Gitanga Road, Nairobi,

Kenya and will be prepared for the rally by the high school students using the school workshop.

The students will be guided by the headteacher Andy Hill and myself who will undertake anything outside the ability of the children.

I thought we might be able to help with some advertising or something else to promote individuals or companies who feel able to support us both through the vehicle and the Rhino Ark environmental projects. The team would be more than happy to talk about how we can contribute in return for your support. We are not after one sponsor providing the whole amount (unless you really want to) but would be happy with small contributions which help get us there.

The team consists of six people, a driver and a navigator and four runners who cut through the bush to find the shortest distance. We can paint the vehicle or wear clothes to a design specified by a sponsor.

Any additional ideas are welcome but we would really like to have you on board to as great or small extent as is possible.

I realise this may not be possible but I appreciate you spending the time reading this and should you not be able to support us any suggestions on other groups we should approach would be appreciated.

Kenyan Address: Braeburn Primary School, Gitanga Road, Nairobi, Kenya
