DAVID Levy (Letters, April 24), could this possibly be the same who was fixated and overanxious about dogs in November 2007?
What is wrong with this man? Has he been attacked by a dog in the past, or has he a grievance against a particular dog owner?

I was personally very disturbed to see Kirstine Hillerby and the injuries caused to her horse, Rebecca, by a dog.

Her
ordeal was heart-breaking and I sincerely wish Kirstine and her horse well.

But yet again someone jumps on the 'bandwagon' about dogs.

Let's try and put things into perspective.

One evening this week as I was walking along the path through the dunes, a cyclist flew past me from behind, he must have been travelling at least 15mph to 18mph. I received such a fright. Do I think we should ban cyclist from this path? No.

I often witness horses out of control, causing havoc with traffic on the A190. Do I think we should ban all horses from the A190? No, I would hope that if they caused any damage to my car or any one else's car that they would be accountable.

Should we have a 7pm curfew on all teenagers because a few cause disruption? No.

It is very upsetting and annoying that there are people who do not 'stand up and be accountable' for their actions, or the actions of animals or children within their care.

But we cannot outlaw all, because of a minority, be it dogs, horses, children or cyclists.

Only two weeks ago a member of my family had their dog attacked by another dog on Blyth beach.

The dog in question had to be carried from the beach due to his injuries, the dog required medical treatment and hospitalisation.

Once again the reprehensible owner and dog had disappeared without trace – maybe it was the same animal which attacked Kirstine's horse, Rebecca.

Every day of every week, at any time of day, hail, rain or snow, you will see dogs and their owners out on Blyth beach.

The majority will be responsible, respectful people, with dogs who cause little or no problem. Why ban them all?

JILL HENDERSON
