ON behalf of the Liberal Democrat candidates can I thank residents of Bedlington, Ashington, Stakeford and Newbiggin by the Sea for their support at the elections for our new Northumberland Council on May 1.
We now have five Liberal Democrat councillors from Wansbeck on the new authority, who will be working hard over the next 11 months to ensure that arrangements are in place for the successful launch of the new unitary council in April, 2009.

Can I also express my thanks for the outstanding efforts of our unsuccessful candidates, who will continue to offer residents an alternative to the Labour Party so decisively rejected at the ballot box.

COUNCILLOR SIMON REED
Leader, Wansbeck
Liberal Democrats.
