A POPULAR Ashington choir has been given a grant of £900 to buy a new piano.

The recent progress of Ashington & District Male Voice Choir has been recognised with the grant from The 43 Fund of the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

The choir performs in many venues and has to have a reliable instrument which easily transported, and the new one replaces one which was difficult to carry but gave almost 25 years of service.

Musical director Neil Morton said: “We are delighted with the new instrument and the choir members are very happy with the recognition and generosity of the 43 Fund and know that the new keyboard will help be most valuable for concerts throughout the area.”

The choir will return to Felton on Saturday, November 19, with a charity concert in the Village Hall and then on Tuesday, November 29, there is a return to Ellington Welfare and the Darby and Joan Club.
