Oasis play to full crowd at Stadium of Light

ROCK and roll titans Oasis played a stunning set at Sunderland's Stadium of Light last night.

Over 50,000 fans packed into Sunderland AFC's home ground for the band's first ever visit to the Stadium, as they emerged to massive cheers and got stuck in with the classic anthem Rock 'N' Roll Star.

The band were on fine form, rolling out hit after hit from an impressive back catalogue that spans over 15 years, with tracks from 1994's Definitely Maybe right up to latest release Dig Out Your Soul.

The Gallagher brothers have a huge collection of songs to choose from and wasted no time getting straight into Lyla, The Shock Of The Lightning and the iconic Cigarettes and Alcohol.

Liam left the stage for Noel to take lead vocals on The Importance of Being Idle and Half The World Away - my highlights of the night, and later he performed an incredible acoustic version of Don't Look Back In Anger.

Manchester's finest belted out the fan favourites Wonderwall, Songbird, Morning Glory and Live Forever before leaving for an encore.

While it may not have been the jaw-dropping show that Take That was at the Stadium last week, Oasis has never been a band to rely on gimmicks and let the music to do the talking with an impressive set.

With incredible support from the likes of Reverend and the Makers, The Enemy - who played an amazing set with We'll Live And Die In These Towns, Away From Here and Had Enough, and Kasabian who rocked the stadium with new single Fire, LSF, Club Foot, Shoot The Runner, and the amazing new Fast Fuse, this was more of a mini-festival than a gig.

And while it didn't have the drama of the brothers' homecoming show in Heaton Park in Manchester where a failed generator led to Noel promising 70,000 fans full refunds, it still had the rock and roll edge we've come to expect from the Gallaghers.

Ending with Champagne Supernova and a cover of The Beatles' I Am The Walrus, the band left the stage heroes, as the thousands of fans spilled out onto the streets of Sunderland.

The band will move on to play Cardiff on Friday, before moving to Edinburgh, Coventry, and Wembley.
