Spellbinding second offering from American jazz star
MY One And Only Thrill is the spellbinding second album from the young American jazz sensation that is Melody Gardot.
Left disabled at the age of 19 following a car crash, the young star turned the pain of her life-changing accident into material for her enthralling debut album Worrisome Heart which came out last year
Now just 25-years-old, Melody has expanded on the rich jazz and blues influences of Worrisome Heart to create an intimate second offering, in My One And Only Thrill.
Her new album, which was released on Monday, offers track upon track of beautiful lyrics and an incredible voice that will appeal to all music lovers.
The 11 emotional songs on the album, primarily about love and romance, show how this star turned what was therapy for her disability into an exception talent.
With the exception of a rare cover, in the Brazilian rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Melody has written all of the songs on the album, covering a wide range of emotions.
It would take someone with a heart of stone not to be moved by the emotionally poignant title track My One And Only Thrill.
Melody has already been compared to other jazz/blues contemporaries such as Norah Jones, but is likely to have more sticking power.
Her voice has progressed from last year's debut album, and seems filled with more emotion than previously.
The blues of Your Heart Is As Black As The Night, right to the gospel sound of Who Will Comfort Me, this is an album that spans the genres and shows how effortlessly this incredible singer can adapt.
Title track, My One and Only Thrill, is a beautiful song of true love, and shows how this powerful voice has a hint of Eva Cassidy within her.
Melody has the sort of voice that touches the soul, and an amazing talent that should make her enjoy succes for a long time to come.
With an appearance on the Paul O'Grady show already under her belt this year, she is sure to have secured herself scores of loyal fans.
My One And Only Thrill is a versatile album that would be the perfect accompanyment to lazy summer days.
