Readers get chance to meet Vera writer

AUTHOR Ann Cleeves, creator of television detective Vera Stanhope, will be signing copies of her latest book on Saturday.

Ann, of Whitley Bay, will be at Morpeth Chantry from 11am to 3pm.

The book is Ann’s fifth featuring Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope, a character now being played by Brenda Blethyn, pictured, on ITV1.

The Glass Room sees Vera encountering murder and mystery while investigating the disappearance of a neighbour.

The second series of Vera, partly filmed in south east Northumberland, is currently being screened on Sundays.

Neil Bradbury, Northumberland County Council’s executive member for culture and tourism, said: “This is a great chance to meet one of the region’s most important authors, who is doing so much to promote Northumberland through her fantastic books.”

“The new series of Vera has hit our screens, so this is really well timed and a great event for Morpeth.

“When the first series of Vera hit the nation’s screens, it attracted viewing figures in the region of 6.6m, which is a fantastic showcase for Northumberland.”
