New home in line for folk club

ONE of the country’s longest running folk clubs is set to move to pastures new.

Established in 1962, Ashington Folk Club will be moving to The Portland Hotel in Station Road, Ashington, when their current venue at The Miners Institute closes down after the Easter weekend.

To mark the first night in the new venue, Radio 2 folk award winner Martin Simpson will perform on Saturday, March 2, with Pete Molinari performing on Saturday, March 23.

David Knopfler, brother of Mark Knopfler and founder member of Dire Straits, is also set to perform at the club on Friday, April 19, with guitar virtuoso Harry Bogdanovs.
