A COMMUNITY pantomime group set up in 1987 is celebrating its 25th pantomime this November.
The Ashington Panto Group, formally known as St Aiden’s Pantomime, began with their first production, Clinkerella, back in 1988 with homemade costumes and scenery.
Neil King began his association with the group when he was asked to swap his day job as a police sergeant for a role as a fairy.
He’s been with them ever since and over the past 25 shows he has written, directed and starred in pantomimes including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Dick ‘Widdrington.’
This year’s production of Peter Pan will be performed in November at Ashington High School in the town’s Green Lane, and Neil is looking forward to putting on the face paint and entertaining once again this year.
Neil said: “Every year is special, especially seeing the kids’ faces and hearing them shout out at the hero and booing the villain.
“This year however, is extra special being our 25th performance anniversary and that in itself is a tribute to all our members past and present who have worked hard both on stage and behind the scenes.”
Peter Pan will be at Ashington High School from Wednesday, November 16, to Saturday, November 19, at 7pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2pm.
Tickets priced at £3.50 for adults, £3 for concessions and £2.50 for children are available by contacting Eleanor on (01670) 851284.
