Project to record town heritage is under way

A PROJECT recording the evolution of Bedlington town centre through the ages is under way.

The building recording project – part of the Bedlington Townscape Heritage Initiative – will chart the history of the town’s buildings which have undergone changes over time.

The history of Bedlington is believed to date back to Saxon times, and although it is unlikely that the project will uncover anything as old as that, many buildings may contain fabric from centuries past.

On Saturday, September 3, participants will spend the day recording at least two of the buildings in the town centre.

This will involve measuring up, studying old documents and preparing building plans and sketches.

The event is free, and to be involved call Alex Smith at North of England Civic Trust on (0191) 232 9279, or e-mail alex.smith@nect.org.uk to register an interest.
