The Ashington Group collection of paintings at Woodhorn Museum will be taken off display for four weeks from September 15 while the gallery undegoes a revamp.
The collection includes 80 works capturing everything from life underground and in the home to the passions and heartaches of the mining community.
During this brief period of closure, the gallery will be repainted and new interpretations installed including film footage from the 1970s of the artists talking about their work and experiences.
An exciting new in gallery app is in development too, which will enable visitors to find out more about paintings as they move around the gallery.
The new gallery will open on October 11.
