One of the finest banjo players in the UK is coming to Ashington to play his unique and eclectic style taking in folk, funk, bluegrass, jazz, rock and even Arabic styles.

The newest member of the award winning Urban Folk Quartet, Dan Walsh will be doing an extensive UK solo tour in March and April just after returning from a month’s tour of New Zealand, calling in at Ashington Folk Club on March 27.

After making his name with award nominated duo Walsh and Pound, Dan had a remarkable solo year in 2013 touring three new countries as well as the UK and receiving critical acclaim for his album The same but different.

He also collaborated with Indian sarangi player Suhail Yusuf Khan, Canadian country singer Meaghan Blanchard and English concertina legend Alistair Anderson.

Dan has also toured with Seth Lakeman’s band, playing on stage and in the studio with the Levellers and with Martin Simpson.

Musician fans can expect the unexpected from this imaginative and entertaining performer and hear new songs for the first time before his next solo album is released in the autumn, when he plays at Ashington Folk Club at The Portland on Station Road, on Thursday, March 27, at 8pm.

Tickets priced at £5 are available on the door.
