Collins, who only last year returned to the stage after making a remarkable recovery from a cerebral haemorrhage diagnosed in 2005, has been booked for the Northumbria University's student union on Thursday, April 24.
The former lead signer of Scottish post punk sensations Orange Juice is expected to deliver a mix of solo material taken from his new album and the odd Orange Juice classic.
Edwyn Collins websiteFollowing up his appearance at 2007's electric proms with his sixth studio album entitled
Home Again, Collins is set to play seven dates throughout the UK starting off in Birmingham on April 20.
He formed Orange Juice and the hugely influential Postcard Records on which they released a string of acclaimed singles including
Rip It UP,
Falling And Laughing and
Simply Thrilled Honey in the early 1980s.
They went on to record four ambitious albums which fused the rhythm and drive of Chic and Stax with an edge and attitude born out of their post-punk roots.
Orange Juice disbanded in 1985 and Collins has subsequently enjoyed a successful solo career.
His 1994 single
A Girl Like You was a worldwide hit.
He has produced a number of albums, including The Cribs' 2004 long player
The New Fellas.
And he has released five solo albums since his debut,
Hope And Despair in 1989.
Tickets are priced £17.50 for all dates.
