'Rivals battle for French defender'

NEWCASTLE United are reportedly battlng with Everton to sign Tottenham Hotspur's former Wigan Athletic full-back Pascal Chimbonda.
This is not the first time United have been linked with a move for the defender.

Now The Sun newspaper claims the Toon and Everton are both keen on making the player, who has won one international cap with France, a summer signing.

Tottenham are said to be prepared to let Chimbonda leave White Hart Lane but they are looking to recoup £4m of the £4.5m they paid for him two seasons ago.
